After 8 quarters Apple is back to the top position in global Smartphone market
In the last quarter of 2016, smart phone sale has crossed 432 million. There was seven percent growth in the sale when compared to 2015. According to a report, Apple acquired its previous top position by surpassing Samsung after 8 quarters. After the success of Apple iPhone 7 and Apple watch, the company has announced the all-time record sales of $78.4 billion in the first quarter of 2017.
Market research firm Gartner stated that there was 5 percent growth in the sales of Apple in the year 2016 when compared to 2015. It also includes that overall 1.5 billion units were sold to end users by the end of 2016.
Research Director of Gartner, Mr. Anshul Gupta said that “It has taken eight quarters for Apple to regain the spot in the global Smartphone vendor ranking but the position of the two leaders have never been so close, with only 256,000 units difference”. This is the second consecutive quarter in which Samsung is in declining state as its Smartphone sale is reduced to 8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2016 and share dropped by 2.9 percentage points for every year.
The actual drop started in the third quarter of 2016, after Samsung decided to discontinue the Galaxy Note 7 and it continued up to the end of fourth quarter. Mr. AnshulGuptha also added that “The withdrawal of the Galaxy Note 7 left a gap in its large screen phone range. Samsung also faced growing competition in the mid tier and entry level smart phone segments from Huawei , Oppo, BBK and Gionee which all grew there sales each quarter”.
It was reported that 21.3 percentage of Smartphone were sold to end users by Huawei, Oppo and BBK by the end of last quarter in 2016 which was 7.3 percentage increase for every year. In China market Oppo stood in the top position for 2016 by offering high performance, front facing cameras and fast charging facilities.
Previously Apple stood in the top position in the last quarter of 2014, when it launched its first ever large screen iPhone iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus. This the credit has gone to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. From the declined demand for Samsung mobiles, Apple has benefited significantly.
